Book Discussion: Accidentally Re-Reading

Yes, I've had this happen when I look at books in a store, mainly if they are used. But another thing that happens often is checking out a book form the library, unaware if I've already read it. This has happened many times, and I usually see right way on Goodreads if I have already read the book. But that was not the case this past week, when I entered a book I had borrowed and din't see until I was finished that I had read it several years earlier. Though it was one that must not have been memorable if I did not remember the name. I also fear that I might try (unknowingly) to re-read books I already have at home that I'm not really interested in reading again. I really need to go through and decide which ones to get rid of, that I don't feel interested in re-reading.

Has this happened to you?

  1. When I was a kid I'd sometimes get books that I had read before. I would realize it half way through. That's when I started to keep a list of what books I read. But that was 40ish years ago. (This is why I should get on Goodreads, although I haven't quite gotten into it.)

A couple weeks ago (maybe a month), I picked up a "new" book from an author I had been reading a different series from. As I read the first chapter, I realized it sounded very, very familiar. I had gotten it on Amazon. I went looking, and sure enough, I had it from Barnes & Noble (from several years ago).

  2. I can't say that it happens a lot to me, but that's probably only because I don't read nearly so many books as you do!

  3. Yes, of course. When author or publishers change the cover of a book it throws me.

  4. I think we've probably all done that:) I know I have;)AND If it's a book I love, I'll (knowingly) reread it a gazillion times. I've got paperbacks that are over 50 years old that I've taped back together and still reread:)

  5. I don’t think this has happened to me with books (movies, yes), although I have deliberately reread some!

  6. Oh this happens to me. In fact, I was browsing at a book store last week and I was that snake a couple of times. :) And I do deliberately reread books sometimes.

  7. I worked in a library many tears handling many books. I often can’t remember if I read a book or if I saw and handled it several times instead.
