Yes, Garfield and The Pink Panther are popular characters, but did anyone ever want to wear outfits like these? And did anyone ever want to be the characters from Kotter despite how popular the show was?
And even more from the Facebook page from which I got the images in last Monday's post.
Once again, some bizarre choices, both familiar and obscure figures. But did anyone ever want to be any of them, especially Joe McCarthy or J. Edgar Hoover? Gore Vidal? I can't imagine any of these names being inserted in the sentence "I want to be ____ for Halloween." Again, these seem to fall into the scenario of someone getting stuck with one of them because the popular characters were sold out, and these were all that was left. And these were aimed at kids?
Weird! I am fond of the Pink Panther, but that mask looks really uncomfortable…
ReplyDeleteI bet these are just gag images. No kid would want to wear them or even know who they were back in the day.
ReplyDeleteAre these real or are these AI? I vote for AI, but I don't know for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to imagine kids explaining who they are to candy-giving adults that bother to ask.

I agree that bizarre is the right word to describe these costumes.
ReplyDeleteI wonder, when these costumes were new, would you actually still recognize who the mask face was?
ReplyDeleteYes these were made by AI - like making the Dolls or the Spirit Halloween Costumes. No way that Gore Vidal costume was ever marketed for children. I've read Gore Vidal and I am sure you have too Jamie as much as you read. He is so provocative. Now the Kotter/Barbarino and Pink Panther/Garfield probably are the real deal.
ReplyDeleteThese are funny.
