Finishing the Series Reading Challenge 2015

Another challenge for next year, one that I have done for the last two years, so I have to do it again.  I'm in the process of closing it out for this year. There were a few series I'd planed on reading this year, but didn't get around to, so those will be on my plate for next year.  and there were some I'd read but had not planned to, and some for which I needed the last book to finish.   I know I can find at least three series to complete, so I will sign up for Level Three.  Sign up here.  Details from the blog below:

Welcome to the 2015 edition of the Finishing the Series Reading Challenge. This is my fourth year of hosting this challenge.  I've always been a huge fan of series books, but I end up starting them and never getting around to finishing them.  That's why I originally started this reading challenge.  This is a challenge to finish up those unfinished series books!

Here are the rules guidelines.



1) All books that are part of a continuing series qualify (i.e. Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove, Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum, James Patterson's Alex Cross, etc. etc.)

2) It doesn't matter if you have 1 or 10 books in a series to complete it, it qualifies (i.e. if you only need to read one more Sookie Stackhouse book to complete the goal, that's fine) The goal is to complete a series from wherever you are up to until the last published book.

3) The qualification period is January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. Books must be read during this time frame to count.

4) Take the button above and post about it on your blog. Use the Mr. Linky below to sign up and make sure you link it directly to your post about this challenge not to the home page of your blog. 

5) If you don't have a blog, that's fine. Just leave a comment to sign up and tell us which series you are reading. Or you can join my Goodreads group for this challenge by clickinghere.

7) You should choose the series you want to finish before the challenge begins, but it isn't necessary. It's fine to change series during the year - as long as you complete whichever series it is.

Level 2 (Testing the waters) - Complete 2 series.
Level 3 (Experienced) - Complete 3 series.
Level 4 (Expert series reader) - Complete 4 or more series.

2015 Reading Bites Challenge

I love anything to do with vampires. One of my favorite sayings is "Forget being a princess. I want to be a vampire!" Well, I haven't been reading as many books about vampires as I would like so I created a vampire themed reading challenge for 2015. I'm inviting others who love the vampire book genre to join me for this reading challenge. This is a design it yourself challenge. I want you to choose your own reading goals. The Rules:  This challenge begins January 1, 2015 and ends Dec 31, 2015. You may sign up anytime during the year. I won't be creating different levels. Read as little or as many books as you want. You may include books of any format including traditional books, ebooks, or audiobooks. Books may be YA, adult, horror, romance, etc.  You may reread books. 2015 Mount TBR Reading Challenge

Ok, I'm doing this one again.  I'm doing the Mt. Vancouver (36) Level for this year and am still working on it.  I think I'll do Mt. Blanc (24) for next year, but may just go over.  I said that this year, but  haven't met my goal for this year.   Will do 24 for next year, just to be safe.  Will wait to see what happens.

Another year and still my bookaholic status remains unchanged. Despite the fact that I will have knocked over 100 books off of my 2014 Mount TBR by the end of December, there are still whole mountain ranges waiting to be conquered.  
 
So, once again, I plan to concentrate on reading primarily from my own books in the coming year. And you're invited to join me in knocking out some of those books that have been waiting in the wings for weeks....months...even years.

Pike's Peak: Read 12 books from your TBR pile/s

*You may sign up anytime from now until November 4th, 2015.

*Books must be owned by you prior to January 1, 2015. No ARCs (none), no library books. No rereads. [To clarify--based on a question raised last year--the intention is to reduce the stack of books that you have bought for yourself or received as presents {birthday, Christmas, "just because," etc.}. Audiobooks and E-books may count if they are yours and they are one of your primary sources of backlogged books.]

Color Coded Reading Challenge 2015

The Color Coded Challenge seems to be as popular as ever, so we're going to give it another go. This year I'm going to open things up a bit more--the color may either be named in the title or it may appear as the dominant color for the cover of the book. For "implies color" the image implying color should dominate the cover--for instance a large rainbow, a field of flowers, or the image of a painter.  Get ready for a rainbow of reading in 2015.

Here are the rules:

*Read nine books in the following categories.

1. A book with "Blue" or any shade of Blue (Turquoise, Aquamarine, Navy, etc) in the title/on the cover. 

2. A book with "Red" or any shade of Red (Scarlet, Crimson, Burgandy, etc) in the title/on the cover.

3. A book with "Yellow" or any shade of Yellow (Gold, Lemon, Maize, etc.)in the title/on the cover.

4. A book with "Green" or any shade of Green (Emerald, Lime, Jade, etc) in the title/on the cover.

5. A book with "Brown" or any shade of Brown (Tan, Chocolate, Beige, etc) in the title/on the cover.

6. A book with "Black" or any shade of Black (Jet, Ebony, Charcoal, etc) in the title/on the cover.

7. A book with "White" or any shade of White (Ivory, Eggshell, Cream, etc) in the title/on the cover.

8. A book with any other color in the title/on the cover (Purple, Orange, Silver, Pink, Magneta, etc.).

9. A book with a word that implies color (Rainbow, Polka-dot, Plaid, Paisley, Stripe, etc.).

* Any book read from January 1 through December 31, 2015 will count.

*Crossovers with other challenges are fine.

*Everyone who completes all nine categories will be entered in a year-end drawing for a book-related prize package.

I Love Picture Books Reading Challenge 2015

Ok, here is my next one.  I didn't do this one this year, but while doing the Newbery challenge (and I intend to do that one again), I read a few Caldecott picture books and one of my other challenges this year required reading a picture book, so think I'll give this one a go. A Dark and Stormy Night

OK, here's how my Halloween went.  As I stated yesterday, it rained most of the day and into the night. And I went out to the karaoke bar as I have been doing for several years now.  It definitely was dark and stormy last night, though not necessarily at the same time.  The storm had died down well into the late night, but just after 10PM, as the bar's celebration was getting bigger and crowded,  the power went out suddenly.  All the bar patrons were shocked and debated on what do to for the rest of the night.  It was a definitely spooky Halloween.  The bar tenders were unable to close out the credit card tabs that some of the customers had opened.  Everyone seemed to linger in the darkened bar for about half an hour after the power outage.  The owner was home and her son called her to come over.  A worker announced to all the patrons not to leave the bar alone.  I eventually walked out with the owner's son following me.  I've basically been a loner all my life and have braved going to things like this alone.

We eventually learned that the power was expected to be out for several hours.  Eventually some of the patrons, myself included, trekked over to a rival bar several blocks away (only some parts of town were affected by the outage, particularly the street on which the bar is located).  Because the stop lights were out, temporary stop signs were placed on the roads where the power was out.   The other bar across town is smaller than the one and there was a DJ there.  It seemed a little crowded.  I eventually left just after midnight.

Now this morning I learned that bar is doing a "redo" on the karaoke costume contest tonight.  I think I'll be going. I haven't ditched my costume yet (and I still have the one I wore LAST year!)  The power outage may have cut the celebration short, but the owner declared that you can't let a good bar down.

I Love Library Books Reading Challenge 2015

OK, here it comes again. The various annual reading challenges hosted by various blogs.  See this website for the various challenges (more will be coming in the next months) I signed up for a lot of them this year and am still working on some of them.  I know I'll be doing more next year. Some I did this year that already know I'll be back for next year, such as the one you see here.  I love going to the library so I  definitely need to sign up for this one again.  I'm still working on this one for this year as I know I won't stop borrowing books before the year is over, and I currently have two books out from the library.  I definitely will check out more than 50, so I'm going with that level.
