Cooking, Cleaning, Corona, CNN
Cooking and cleaning were two more things I thought I'd be doing more of when stuck at home, but only when necessary. I kept my room dusted and floor vacuumed regularly, and kept up with laundry every other week. And of course mom and I kept the rest of the house cleaned. But as far as major cleaning of my room went, the one time was during the third week of March, the first full week I was without work. I decided to go through some old papers I had lying on my bedroom shelves. The mess of papers included recipes from our cooking class at work. Many of those I found required baking and sadly we do not have a working oven. Thus I was not one of those many baking banana bread, something that seemed to surge during the pandemic. Even if I could have, I would not have been making banana bread, as it has never been a favorite thing of mine. It would have been cookies and cakes for me. And most dinners were kept simple, except a few.
But even if I couldn't bake, some of the recipes did not require baking, so I kept those. One I did several times was Cheesy Chicken Monterey (pictured below), found on the packet of Knorr Rice Sides Chicken Flavor. I have enjoyed making this one.
Oddly, a reading prompt I had this year was to read a cookbook and choose a recipe to make. The one cookbook I read was From Scratch, which did not have any recipes I wanted to try. I now have to find and read another cookbook, and hope it will contain a recipe I want to do 🙂
CNN is definitely not my thing, but my mom watches it so much, I have gotten used to it being on. The same faces and anchors day after day. Endless reports on the coronavirus, protests, and on Trump and the election. Was I ever glad to see him get elected out of office. Incidentally, 2020 was the 40th anniversary of the launching of CNN, but the channel barely acknowledged this fact. On its website was a video of the channel's first day on the air. This is all I want to say on this topic 🙂
Corona--the name became associated with more than just beer this past year. It is the Spanish word for "crown," which appears on the labels for Corona beer. And many did not know that the term "coronavirus" already exists and wondered why it was listed on the labels of Clorox and Lysol. They did not "already know." And it seemed inevitable that cartoons such as these would appear:
And costumes for Halloween this year (more on Halloween and others holidays to come) included Corona-themed ones such as these:
No, I'm not going to include costumes as one of my words here (even though they're a fascination of mine) though some may come up in other posts where they match the subject in question, such as with Corona above.

End of Day Three. Tomorrow is our first Sunday off. A to Z resumes on Monday with the Letter D.
Good C words! Yeah, I'd gloss over CNN too!
ReplyDeleteThose recipes looks good ;)
ReplyDeleteHari OM
ReplyDeleteOh my dad was into watching morning to night news... nearly drove me insane. Cooking, though... that I can and did do!!! YAM xx
Excellent C prompts.
ReplyDeleteI also have done much cooking and cleaning due to the corona virus. I have however have watched much TV listening to my favourite singer Daniel.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Yvonne.
The lemon pasta chicken sounds good! I am a poor housekeeper, my house is a mess. Oh, well... no one comes over anyway. The costumes strike me as tone deaf. Almost 3 million people have died, and the costumes feel like they are making light of it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting collection of Cs there.
ReplyDeleteCleaning is not a popular one in our house. LOL
Thanks for stopping by my blog, I appreciate it.
Jamie,
ReplyDeleteCooking and cleaning have become creative outlets for me over the years. The pandemic forced me to get my nose out of Blogosphere to try new recipes which I'm very happy about. MSM I try to avoid. DH likes keeping up with such things and passes onto me the more important need to know topics. I'm okay with that, too.
Curious as a Cathy’s Looney Tunes A-Z Cecil Turtle Art Sketch. Happy A2Zing, my friend!
