The topic for this post is how do you decide what to read and when, whether you are reading from home or borrowing from the library or from other people?
For me, it all depends on what I have on hand that will meet my monthly writing prompts, and it seems that most of the time the books I have at home (so many I've had for so many years!) don't seem to fit, so I have to find something at the library for the prompt. Thus many of the ones at go unread indefinitely. I was glad that I had a book set in the 1940s that I was able to use for the Decades Challenge in May. It also worked for the Color Coded challenge, for the color blue.
When I'm taking books out of the library, I tend to take five or more at a time. I then take a while to decide what to read first. I often arrange the books in an order that I think I may read them in, but it doesn't always work out that way. Same is true when I'm reading from a stash at home.
What are some of the ways that you approach this decision?
Right now I'm going down my list of books for 20 Books Of Summer. Usually I just pick my next book randomly.
ReplyDeleteSo, I have hundreds of books on my ereader. A couple years ago, I sorted them into quasi genre shelves. (Like "contemporary" or "historical".) When it's time to pick a new book, I try to pick a mood, then I pick a shelf, and then I pick a book from that shelf. It's a terrible method. But at least now the books are sort of sorted, so I can find them.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's hard for me to decide what to read because I usually have 3 or 4 volumes (whether from the library or in my library-ie books waiting to be read) I want to read. And sometimes I just want to read one particular book. Right now I am trying to read light as I'm busy and don't want to be bogged down with anything too heavy.
ReplyDeleteI guess for me it would depend on certain factors. Occasionally I will get books for review and I will try to make those priority but if they are far off in the future, I might set them aside for the moment. Other times if I plan on going to an author signing I will be planning weeks ahead to try to read some of their titles I have piling up or if I nearly caught up, getting myself completely caught up! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI don't tend to do many challenges where you have to read books with a specific theme as I find that too challenging? Lol. I feel like I would stress out too much or if other things popped up I wouldn't want to "fail." So I am very low key in my challenges in basically just trying to read books from my TBR, sometimes I do new release challenges, but I skipped that this year but still have read plenty of new releases! Lol.
So usually I decide by reading really whatever I want, unless of the mitigating factors previously mentioned! :)
