This was the first thing that came to mind. The copy I read was from a thrift store. I found it not too long after the series premiered and was glad not to have found a movie tie-in cover. Shoes are a popular book-cover item. A few years ago, I wrote this post in which I asked if there was any rhyme or reason for the shoes on covers.

The first thing I thought was Cinder by Marissa Meyer - the first version as newer editions of this series does not feature shoes.

Revenge Era by Brittanee Nicole has shoes on the cover
"The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek" and its sequel, "The Book Woman's Daughter" by Kim Richardson, both have shoes on the cover.
