Book Bingo 2018

Doing this one again.  Will get as many spaces As I can. Click here to sign up.

The Grand World of Books Book Bingo 2018 Completed 3
As with last year, there really are no rules of play. It’s up to you as the reader whether you want to try for just one bingo or to black out the board…or something in between. Or…just chose your favorite spaces and read for fun with the board as a guide. This is not meant to be stressful, but to be a fun game to enhance your reading. A couple of notes: 1) For the square that says “A Book that Made You Cry” – this does not need to be taken literally. It can also be just a book that made you feel sad or emotional. 2) For the square that says “A Book that Made You Angry” – again, we’re looking for strong emotions here, whether you’re mad at the author, the book, the characters, etc.

Wild Wild West Reading Challenge 2018

I've not been a big reader of Westerns, but I have read a few so far, including a western-themed romance. And sometimes it's good to get out of one's reading comfort zone, so I want to try this one, reading two at least, maybe more. Go here to sign up.

Challenge Levels:
  • Lasso and Chaps: Read 2 westerns
  • Bandana and Vest: Read 4 westernsWild Wild West Challenge 2018
  • Saddle and Horse: Read 6 westerns
  • Boots and Spurs: Read 8 westerns
  • Six-guns and Stetson: Read 10 or more westerns
The Fine Print
  • The challenge runs from January 1 to December 31, 2018. Choose your challenge level from the list above and commit to reading that number of westerns. You can always move up a level if you get a hankerin’ fer more.
  • For the purposes of this challenge, a western is defined as “a book set in the American Old West frontier and typically set from the late eighteenth to the late nineteenth century.” That definition can be stretched a bit to include books like Eowyn Ivey’s To the Bright Edge of the World about the Alaskan frontier, or even books like Sackett’s Land, the first of Louis L’Amour’s western series about the Sackett family, even though it begins in 17th century England. If you’re unfamiliar with the western genre, a good place to begin looking for books is the list of Spur Award winners. And here’s a list of the best western novels of the 20th century, according to the Western Writers of America.
  • Nonfiction books are fine, too, as long they make up no more than half of the western books you read for your level.
  • You can sign up anytime from now until November 1, 2018.
  • Re-reads are good, as are ebooks and audiobooks. Books you read for this challenge can also cross over to other challenges and vice-versa.
  • You can list your books in advance or you can list them as you read them. If you list them in advance feel free to edit the list at any time but try to reach your committed level of books.
  • You don’t have to have a blog to participate, but if you do then please use the linkup button below to share your sign-up post. If you don’t have a blog then please leave a comment below stating your committed level.
  • I’ll be posting monthly check-ins to allow you to share your progress and any book reviews you write. Writing reviews is not necessary, but I for one would love to know what you think of the books you’ve read.
So saddle up, pardner! Let’s get this wagon train movin’ and explore the Wild Wild West!

Here is what I am reading:

Craving For Cozies 2018 – Reading Challenge

Will be doing this one again, trying for at least the first level. Sign up here.

Cozy mysteries, also referred to simply as “cozies”, are a sub-genre of crime fiction mysteries in which sex and violence are downplayed or treated humorously, and the crime and detection take place in a small, socially intimate community. The crime-solver is an amateur sleuth, usually but not always a woman, who is thrust into the aftermath of the murder. The protagonist frequently has an occupation or hobby that brings appealing information to the reader.
The challenge runs from January 1, 2018, and ends December 31, 2018

Book Challenge by Erin 8.0

Book Challenge by Erin 8.0 - General Rules
  • First and foremost, have fun. Don't stress. No one is being judged, graded, or penalized. Even if you finish only one book the entire challenge, if you enjoy it and it's an accomplishment for you, then that's awesome.
  • The challenge will run from JANUARY 1, 2018 to APRIL 30, 2018. No books that are started before 12 a.m. on January 1 or finished after 11:59 p.m. on April 30 will count.  (We live in different time zones – follow this according to your own time zone.)
  • Each book must be at least 200 pages long.   Audio books are fine too.
  • A book can only be used for one category, and each category can only be completed once. If you want to switch the category of a book, or change the book you originally chose, no worries.
  • You can read your books in any order you choose.
  • Rereads can be used only once.  If a book you love fits into a category, go ahead and visit it again.  Read it in its entirety.  But, only do this once for the challenge.
  • There will be a photo album for each category with links to books chosen.  Please comment on the photo for each of your books when you finish reading them.  A comment can include a review, a rating, a recommendation…other readers want to hear what you thought of your choice.  (If you need help with this, let me know…or there is a file attached to our group explaining what to do.)
  • There will be 10 book categories with a possibility of earning 200 points.   That’s 10 books in four months.  For some of you, this will be a BIG challenge; for others it will be easy peasy.  It’s all for fun, remember!
  • Book categories will be posted December 1st to give you time to gather books in preparation.
  • After the categories are posted, please post a preliminary list with books of your choice according to their categories on the facebook group page by December 15th (if possible).  If you need help with a particular category or want a book suggestion, we as a community of reading enthusiasts can help each other.  (Late entries will still be accepted.)
  • The first three people who finish the challenge will be invited to contribute a category for the next challenge. The following will get a small prize from me (1st to complete 1st round; 1st to complete both rounds; and WILD CARD random draw – all who finish the 10 book challenge will qualify as an entry!)  Plus, everyone who completes the challenge will gets all sorts of recognition and support!
  • Lastly, have fun.  Don't stress. No one is being judged, graded, or penalized. Even if you finish only one book the entire challenge, if you enjoy it and it's an accomplishment for you, then that's awesome.  Wait, I’ve read that somewhere before…Good luck!

  • There is a drawing each month for a foodie book.  The selections are posted when the winner is chosen.
  • The drawing is open internationally.
  • Starting in January 2018, anyone who has won the drawing in the last 6 months will not be eligible to win in order to let more people have a chance to win.

Bookish Bingo: Winter 2017-18

It’s time for another round of Bookish Bingo! If you’re new here, Bookish Bingo is a reading challenge that spans one season. This round is winter 2017-18, so December, January, and February. Each season I create a new bingo card with 24 different categories. The object of the game is to get as many bingos as possible – and also to possibly expand your reading horizons.
