I for...

 #AtoZChallenge 2023 letter I

ICE CREAM WITH WOODEN SPOONS & ICE CREAM TRUCKS:

(Pretty slim pickings with this letter.)

Remember these little tubs of ice cream with swirls of chocolate or strawberry that came with the little wooden spoons? Many have said they liked the taste of spoon better, but there were times that I did not use the wooden spoon.

I remember still seeing and buying these in the early 2000s, but have not looked for or bought any recently. I looked and saw the wooden spoons for sale. I suppose they could be used for eating ice cream or for school projects that require ice cream sticks, though I can't imagine what could be built out of sticks of this shape 🙂

And of course everyone remembers chasing after the ice cream truck when it arrived on your street. I was not too big on this, though, and can only recall one or two times that I actually bought something from the vendor.  Today, ice cream trucks don't seem to be as frequent, and some are much smaller than those of yore. And the current ones in my neighborhood don't seem to come down my street very often. Once I heard an ice cream truck playing Christmas songs in the middle of April! If I could choose anything in the photo above, I'd want the ice cream sandwich.

Now, according to this photo, as adults we go after these:

I must admit I do often rush out immediately to get the mail. Most of my Amazon orders come though USPS, though some have come from Amazon Prime trucks, even I have not signed up for Amazon Prime.

And remember this ice cream?

And when ice cream came packaged like this?

ICE TRAYS:

Whenever my family used ice trays for making ice cubes, it was usually the plastic blue ones. Metal ones also existed, but we never had those ones as far as I know.

Nowadays, plastic ice cub trays are made of flimsy plastic, with shapes other than just the standard cube. Though the standard ones still exist.  And apparently now the trays are used for more than just making ice cubes. I could see using them for clay molds.

I still have an ice tray. They come in handy for many many tasks.

I remember the old metal ice cube trays with the lever you had to pull up to release the ice cubes. They were one long pain in the ass. Those "flimsy plastic trays" of today with the multiple ice cube shapes are made of silicon, that's why they're flexible enough to release those often weirdly shaped ice cubes. Silicon is a cross between a synthetic rubber and a synthetic plastic polymer, apparently. I dislike silicon containers and bakeware despite its marvelous flexibility and molding because my palate is sensitive enough to taste the allegedly tasteless silicon in the resulting food.

I do remember chasing down the ice cream truck when I was a kid. We have one that comes by here quite often, and we've occasionally got something from them not long ago. We used those ice trays for years, but now our refrigerator makes ice. Fun posts! :)

I always hated the wooden spoons - and still do. They make my teeth itch. LOL!

An ice cream truck still comes by in summer. And children still chase after it.

Ice trays are pretty outdated aren't they?
Definitely remember the ice creams with the spoons.

I don't recall ever living anywhere where an ice cream truck came to neighborhoods. I assumed Hollywood made that up. I have been to many food truck gatherings in the last decade though. And they often have ice cream.

I recall the wooden spoon ice cream in the hospital. This seemed odd to me, because kids would break the spoon to get a splinter to get another ice cream.

I'm focused on the April #AtoZChallenge.
Proof of Existence, book two in my dark urban fantasy series, is out this month.
I'm running a giveaway on my blog.
